Vegetable Pizza Pull Apart Bread

Doesn't this bread just look just worth drooling over. For me at least I have seen this made by several folks and have wanted to make it for a while now. Funny thing is - I actually have. This is probably the third time around that I am making this but it was only this time that I actually got around to be able to hold everyone off till I took the pictures! A perfect snack (or even lunch) for bread lovers and a great crowd pleaser, this bread not just looks great itself, it will make you look good too. Slicing the bread just right takes some patience. Too deep a cut with make the bread fall apart and too little will not allow for enough filling. Filling it with veggie mixture needs some patience as well but tell you what, in the end it is all very well worth it. So pull away!

Ingredients:
Italian bread    1 loaf
Butter1/4 cup, melted
Olive oil 1/4 cup + 1 tsp
Minced onions2 tbsp
Garlic2 fat cloves, minced
Salt, pepperto taste
Chilli flakes/Italian seasoning1 tsp each or to taste
Mushroom17-20 chopped
Bell pepper4 tbsp chopped
Marinara /Pizza sauce1/4 cup
Grated cheese 1 1/4 cup (I used Colby jack)
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF.
2. Heat 1 tsp oil add in the garlic and saute for a minute. Next add in the onion and cook for a minute or two. Add mushroom and bell pepper with little salt and pepper, chilli flakes, add in the marinara, mix, simmer for a min. The mixture should be semi dry and not watery. Set aside.
3. Mix the melted butter, olive oil in a bowl.
4. Cut the bread into cubes with X slices without cutting all the way through the bottom crust.
5. Pour the butter-oil mixture carefully into those X cuts using a small spoon and over the top of the bread. Fill the cracks with veggies, then cheese (painful but so worth it :).
6. Wrap the entire loaf with aluminum foil, sealing the sides properly and bake for 1- 17 minutes. Remove from the oven and unwrap. Bake for another 7-8 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey. Serve with some marinara as a dip. ENJOY!

what is marinara sauce?

Puja said...

Marinara is an Italian based tomato sauce often flavored with garlic and herbs. It is usually used as pizza and pasta sauce too.Hope that helps.
