Pizza Hut Style Breadsticks with Dipping Sauce ~ All Homemade

Those among my readers that like to cook and experiment in the kitchen will surely agree that recreating a dish that you had somewhere just by memory and getting similar results, if not better, has that extra special kick. You get to eat what you like and can do it whenever you like without having to drive out, not to mention at a fraction of the cost. If you have followed my work, you would know I am a bread lover. Every now and then we take kiddo to our local dine-in Pizza Hut for her fix of pizza. I hit the salad bar and mostly load up on that while hubs and the little one tear open little packets of grated parmesan, sprinkle on their slice and devour it while emphatically claiming how good it was. They offer me a slice which I gladly accept. Every now and then we order a side of breadsticks as well. It would probably be no surprise to you when I say I love those. This weekend I pushed my memory a little and attempted to make them at home. Yes it a success story and a nice one at that. They came out just perfect. Light and fluffy, slightly crispy at the bottom and perfectly seasoned with cheese and spices. I had a taste and instantly knew they will be a hit. My proof came when kiddo, who never wants to eat, took one stick and walked away. Couple of minutes later she returned to the kitchen saying 'mommy can I have one more please'. I did not need to hear any more.
Ingredients: makes 10-12

All purpose flour2 cups
Warm water1/2 cup

Warm milk (I use 2%)
1/4 cup

Rapid rise yeast
11/4 tsp
Garlic powder 1/2 tsp
Butter
2 tbsp melted

Sugar 3/4 tbsp
Salt1/2 tsp
Extra virgin olive oil 4-5 tbsp for the pan
For the seasoning -

Oregano1/2 tsp
Garlic powder
1 tsp
Parmesan powder2-3 tbsp
Italian seasoning1 tsp
Salt/Pepperto taste
For the dipping sauce -

Tomato puree/canned tomato sauce    1 cup
Sugar1/2 tsp
Dried oregano1/2  tsp
Italian seasoning1/2 tsp
Garlic powder1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Red chilli flakes to taste

Method:
1. Use your stand mixer with the dough hook or take a large mixing bowl. Put yeast, sugar warm water and milk. Stir to mix well. Let it froth for 3-4 minutes. Add salt and butter and mix.
2. Add the flour little at a time and garlic powder and mix until dough starts to form and no dry flour is left.If the dough seems too sticky, add a little bit flour. Knead the dough on medium speed for 5-6 minutes or if using  hands for 6-7 minutes.
3. Pour the 4 tbsp of oil into a 9×13 cake pan making sure it is spread evenly. Take out the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll into a approx 9×13 rectangle. Then place the dough into the 9×13 pan. Cover the pan with a plastic sheet or damp kitchen towel and let the dough rest and rise for at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours in a warm place like under your kitchen counter lights.
4. For the sauce - mix everything and boil on medium heat and simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. Mix everything for the seasoning in a small bowl and set aside.
5. Preheat the oven to 450ºF. After the dough has risen, cut the dough into 10-12 equal bread sticks. I used my pizza cutter.
6. Brush the top gently with some extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle the seasoning evenly on the top. Bake bread sticks for 12-17 minutes or till brown and the edges get crispy. Take out of the oven and serve hot with the dipping sauce. ENJOY!

Fantastic! Those look exactly like the ones from Pizza Hut. I recently made focaccia with the same topping - garlic, parmesan and Italian herbs and it's the best combination ever!
